Common questions about UK spam calls.
Hush is a free UK website that scores unknown phone numbers and scam emails from real community reports — no app, no login. Paste a contact to see risk, tags, and recent reports, or use the SMS checker for phishing wording and dodgy links. Anyone can report anonymously so the next person can decide whether to answer, pay, or block.
How do I find out who called me from an unknown number?
Paste the number into Hush's lookup. We show how many people have reported it, what they reported it as (sales, scam, silent call, delivery scam, bank impersonation), and a community risk score from 0 to 100.
Is this text from Royal Mail / HMRC / Evri a scam?
Paste it into the SMS checker. We flag known scam phrases, look for link shorteners and suspicious domains (.xyz, .top, lookalikes), and show the reasoning so you can decide for yourself.
Can I get my number off the spam-callers' lists?
Honestly, no — once your number is on those lists, it stays. The realistic options are: register with the TPS to cut legitimate UK marketing calls, block individual numbers as you go, and use a community database like Hush so unknown calls are identified before you answer.
Is Hush free?
Yes. Lookups, reports and SMS checks are free forever. Hush+ at £2/month adds deeper analysis, scam-wave alerts and auto-generated GDPR data-removal requests when we ship those features.
Do I need to give you my phone number or contacts?
No. Hush has no login and no app. We don't read your call log or contacts and we don't store your IP. Reports are anonymous.
Where do the reports come from?
Real people in the UK who've been called, texted or emailed by the number in question. Every report adds weight to the community risk score for that contact.
